Dorothea never intended to stay. Not in her hometown, not in Auckland, and not anywhere else. She has spent her whole life moving: from cities and continents, from people and possibilities, in an attempt to chase down the excitement of freedom that only exists in motion. She thought that leaving home would be enough to satisfy the restlessness within her.
Then she meets Peter. He belongs to another, and she belongs to nowhere. Their love exists in the in-between and in something that never settles yet never fades. Over the years, their paths tangle and untangle, pulling them from the coasts of Auckland through the entirety of the world.
Now, years later, she looks back at the people they were, the choices they made, and the places they went. As she reflects upon her past, Dorothea is forced to face the hardest question of them all: was she always meant to leave, or was she simply afraid to stay?
Hello! My name is Laura Kirsten Soerensen. I was born in 2005, and I'm a triathlete, ultrarunner, traveler, mountain hiker, sourdough baker, CD collector, jewelry maker, knitter, and, well, I suppose I can call myself an author now as well! I enjoy writing stories about the things that everybody feels but doesn't necessarily say out loud. You know, the missed chances, growing up, and the messiness that comes with trying to find your place in a world that is constantly moving. When I'm not writing, I love chasing my next adventures. Anything from climbing mountains to paragliding to running 50 kilometers or trying something completely new just to see if I can, is right up my alley. I'd say that's what shapes my writing the most: ambition, movement, and my constant urge to want to learn new things.
